Trees,
trails greet visitors to Motherhouse
Guests to the Motherhouse grounds are invited to explore
two nature trails with the help of a new Tree Guide. The
pamphlet features a map of the Red Trail (Motherhouse Circle)
and the Blue Trail (Stations of the Cross Pathway). The
guide helps visitors to identify trees along the way and
includes sketches of the leaves.
The
Congregation's Eco Group developed the guide following the
identification and tagging of approximately 54 different
types of trees on the 88 acres of grounds. The group suggests
that visitors "make friends with the trees" that
mark the Motherhouse grounds as home and holy.
Guests
are encouraged to walk the trails, as well as a 50-yard
circular labyrinth, to for solitude and prayer. Tree guides
are available at the reception desk of the Motherhouse convent.
