Renovated
Book Nook Opens
Sisters,
their relatives and visitors to the Motherhouse can once
again purchase an array of distinctive gifts for mind, body
and soul at the newly renovated Book Nook gift shop.
The
Book Nook, located just off the main entrance to the convent,
1020 State Street, Baden, officially opens to the public
July 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will have regular hours
in a few weeks.
Sister
Kathleen Garde, coordinator, said the shop features a variety
of items, including greeting cards for all occasions, stationary,
framed paintings, books, candles and soaps. Gift certificates
also are available.
"The
gift shop is a wonderful way to showcase the talents of
our own Sisters and those of other Congregations, who make
many of the items by hand, and help raise funds for our
Congregation and ministries," Sister Kathleen said.
"Im very excited to be assisting."
Sister
Karen Stoila, Director of Development for the Sisters of
St. Joseph, said the Book Nook provides a unique opportunity
for the public, particularly those attending workshops and
retreats conducted at the St. Joseph Spirituality Center,
to better connect with Sisters.
"We
offer books, CDs and other items that will coincide with
timely topics the Spirituality Center is addressing,"
Sister Karen said.
Over
the years, the Book Nook has grown from a simple space where
Sister Maureen Clark began displaying pottery and other
art created by Sisters in the late 1960s.
Today, the Book Nook is tailored more toward the concept
of holistic living, has a new ceramic tile floor, new shelves
and lots of new items.
