Sisters
of St. Joseph Sponsor Health Fair:
'Eat well ... Live well'
The
Sisters of St. Joseph, along with Heritage Valley Health
System and Med-Fast Pharmacy, are teaming up to sponsor
an informational health fair Saturday, Sept. 17, from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair, which is free and open to the
public, will be conducted at the Mount Gallitzin Academy
Activities Building, 1016 State Street, Baden.
Employing
the theme "Eat well ... Live well," the fair will
focus on health and nutritional information for all age
groups from children to the elderly. One of the primary
topics will be the recently revised Food Pyramid which places
new emphasis on whole grains, green leafy vegetables and
exercise. Other topics include portion vs. serving sizes,
diabetes education and food labels.
The
fair also will feature free blood pressure, blood sugar,
bone density, oxygen and body mass index screenings for
the public; the opportunity to speak with a certified nutritionist;
various displays; massage therapy sessions and prizes and
giveaways.
Sister
Gerrie Grandpre, director of health resources for the Sisters
of St. Joseph, said the health fair is an opportunity for
the Sisters to reach out to the public and provide some
valuable information in a fun and non-threatening way.
"We
really see this as a service to our neighbors to help us
all try to live more healthfully," Sister Gerrie said.
"Its also an opportunity for members of the community
to come to our grounds and get to know the Sisters."
