Sister
Colleen Crossen, CSJ
Sister
Colleen Crossen, a kindergarten teacher at Mount Gallitzin
Academy for 14 years, has a natural ability to transfer
her calming and peaceful presence to her young students.
"I
believe that Gods gifts of unity and reconciliation
are much needed in todays world," she says. "I
feel that God has blessed me as an early childhood educator
to guide children to become peacemakers."
A
passionate advocate of peace and social justice, Sister
Colleen, by example, strives to instill in her students
an appreciation and acceptance of differences, whether cultural,
physical or economical. Described as "generous of heart
and inclusive," Sister Colleen often incorporates sign
language into her lessons and uses it beyond the classroom
to more fully communicate with those who are hearing impaired.
Prior
to teaching at Mount Gallitzin, Sister Colleen served education
ministries at Holy Rosary and Annunciation in Pittsburgh.
She entered religious life, largely influenced by her parents.
"They are and have been incredible models of Gods
unconditional love,'' she says. "They also drew me
to love community through my 12 brothers and sisters."
