SISTER DOROTHY BAXTER, CSJ, 81, (formerly Sister Roderick) died Friday, July 25, in Villa St. Joseph in her 63rd year as a Sister of St. Joseph of Baden. Sister Dorothy, the daughter of Abraham and Mary Wesibecker, entered the Congregation from Transfiguration Parish in Monongahela.

Sister Dorothy’s ministry as a teacher in the Pittsburgh, Altoona/Johnstown, and Greensburg Dioceses spanned a period of 20 years including 5 years at St. Canice Parish, Pittsburgh. Sister continued to minister at St. Canice as Pastoral Minister from 1973–78.

From 1978–1989, Sister Dorothy was a compassionate presence as chaplain at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. As a member of the staff of Mercy House/Mercy Hospital from 1991–1996, Sister welcomed all those who spent time there. When Sister Dorothy began her residence at the Motherhouse in Baden in 1996, she served as receptionist for the Motherhouse and as switchboard volunteer for Villa St. Joseph. Sister also took delight in tutoring Mt. Gallitzin Academy’s Kindergarten class where her skills as a teacher, along with her kindness and patience were gifts that enriched the students and teacher.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ruth Baxter of Monongahela, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, a great grandniece, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden. Friends will be received Sunday from 1–8 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday at 4 p.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sisters’ Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds. Donations in the name of Sister Dorothy may be sent to the Sisters of St. Joseph Memorial Fund, St. Joseph Convent, 1020 State Street, Baden, PA  15005.
