SISTER LAURA DAUGHERTY, CSJ, 96, died Thursday, April 17, in Villa St. Joseph in her 81st year as a Sister of St. Joseph of Baden. The daughter of the late Charles and Laura Carrigan Daugherty, Sister Laura entered the Congregation in 1927 from St. Mary Parish, New Castle.

Sister Laura ministered for more than 50 years in the Dioceses of Pittsburgh, Greensburg, Altoona-Johnstown, and Columbus, OH, and the Arch-Diocese of Miami, FL. During this time Sister served at Holy Rosary, Perrine, FL, for 7 years, St. Bernard, Mt. Lebanon for 8 years, and as principal of St. Pius X in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, from 1960–66. Sister Laura retired to the Motherhouse in 1981, where she enjoyed tutoring students from Mt. Gallitzin Academy, and assisting in the Duplicating Department until 1997. Sister was admitted to Villa St. Joseph in 2001 due to declining health.

Sister Laura opened the minds and hearts of her students through her excellent teaching skills and her kindness. Sister will also be remembered for her keen sense of humor.

Sister Laura is survived by nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden. Friends will be received Monday from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sisters’ Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds. Donations in the name of Sister Laura may be sent to the Sisters of St. Joseph Memorial Fund, St. Joseph Convent, 1020 State Street, Baden, PA 15005.
