SR. MARIA GORETTI DIZINNO, CSJ, 72, died Saturday, July 7, in Villa St. Joseph, Baden, in her 54th year as a Sister of St. Joseph. Sister Maria Goretti, the daughter of Michael A. and Carmellia Uccellino DiZinno entered the Congregation from the former St. Canice Parish in Pittsburgh.
Sister ministered as a teacher in the Pittsburgh and Altoona/Johnstown Dioceses from 1956 to 1973 including 10 years at Assumption School in Bellevue. After further studies at Duquesne University, she continued her ministry at Assumption Parish as Pastoral Minister from 1971 to 1982. Sister Maria Goretti then served as Counselor and Spiritual Director in Tucson, Arizona from 1982–2001. She retired to the Motherhouse in 2001 due to health reasons. Sister enjoyed people and ministered with a warm and welcoming presence. She is survived by two sisters: Sr. Elaine DiZinno, a Sister of St. Joseph of Baden, and Catherine Holden, Pittsburgh; a brother: Ronald DiZinno, LaQuinta, CA; nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden. Friends will be received Thursday from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 4:00 p.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sisters’ Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds. Donations in the name of Sister Maria Goretti may be sent to the Sisters of St. Joseph Memorial Fund, St. Joseph Convent, 1020 State Street, Baden, PA 15005.
