Student Support Services

Guidance Services

A certified guidance counselor is provided through funding from Pennsylvania Act 89. The counselor offers individual or group counseling and also provides whole class instruction on various topics. The counselor is part of the school’s Students’ Assistance Program team, and consults with faculty and meets with parents when necessary.

Health

The Ambridge Area School District provides a school nurse. The nurse schedules doctor’s visits for dental and physical examinations that are required by PA law. The physician also conducts the vision and hearing tests and height and weight screenings for designated grades. The nurse is available in case of an emergency or health concern. Health information and emergency cards are kept on file in the school office.

Remedial Programs

A reading specialist and speech teacher are provided through Act 89 for those students who are eligible for services. The reading specialist also serves students who are eligible for Title I.

Educational Field Trips

Students are provided the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational field trips throughout the school year. These trips are intended to enhance and supplement a particular course objective. Students also participate in field trips which enhance the students’ experience of fine arts. Overnight trips are not permitted.

Transportation

Students are provided bus transportation from their home school district. Currently 17 school districts provide busing to Mount Gallitzin Academy. State law does not permit students to ride buses from other districts. Because the majority of our students reside in the Ambridge Area School District, we follow its yearly calendar as closely as possible, and also follow their lead for weather delays and cancellations. Parents also transport their child / children to and from school.

School Lunch Program

A hot lunch program is provided for students. Mount Gallitzin Academy participates in the government program for free and reduced lunches. An a la carte menu is also available. Parents are asked to volunteer in the cafeteria to assist the cafeteria staff.
