Sister Conleth Brannan, CSJ, 87, died Sunday, November 9, 2014 in Villa St. Joseph, Baden, in her 69th year as a member of the Congregation. The daughter of Faber and Rita Donoughe Brannan, Sister entered the Congregation from St. Patrick, Gallitzin, PA.
For more than 25 years Sister Conleth ministered as a teacher in the Altoona-Johnstown, Pittsburgh, Columbus, OH and Perrine, FL Dioceses. During this time Sister taught at St. Andrew, Columbus, for eight years and Holy Rosary, Perrine for five years.
In 1978 Sister began ministering to the handicapped as Asst. Director for the Apostolate for the Deaf in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Sister Conleth traveled to parishes in South Florida to interpret religious services and coordinate social events for the deaf community.
She and Fr. Jim Vitucci were co-founders and co-directors of the Schott Memorial Center for the Deaf, now known as Schott Communities. She remained there until 2012 serving in various capacities: DRE, Pastoral Ministry, Program Director, Co-Pastoral Director and Volunteer.
In March of 2012 she received the Schott Communities Heroes Tribute which honors individuals who make a difference in the disabled community. In recognizing Sr. Conleth, it was noted that, “her energy, commitment and continuous care for others have been a primary source of vitality for the Schotts staff and volunteers.”
In 2012 Sister retired to the Motherhouse where she continued to reach out to others through her warm smile and generous heart. Due to declining health, she became a resident of Villa St. Joseph in 2014.
Sister Conleth is survived by two brothers, Pat, Altoona, PA and Maurice, Altoona, PA a sister, Elaine Dillon, Cresson, PA, nieces and nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden.
Friends will be received Tuesday, Nov. 11 from 1:00 -8:00 PM and Wed. Nov. 12 from 11:00 AM -2:30 PM at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wed., Nov. 12 at 3:00 P.M. in the Motherhouse Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sisters’ Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds.
