This year, our weekly Advent reflections were prepared by Sister and Associate prayer partners. The Prayer Partner Project encourages Sisters and Associates to unite with God and one another on a personal level. Sister Mary Ann Thimons is matched with Associate Linda Biel and Sister Lyn Szymkiewicz is paired with Associate Carla Gregory.
Fourth week of Advent
And it all began here – the Annunciation – God’s invitation offered by an angel to Mary asking that she enflesh, nurture and reveal – God With Us.
Her fear, her moments of hesitation dispelled when she is given companions and allies for this wondrous journey of love. The Holy Spirit . . . the power of God . . . and a kinswoman – Elizabeth.
Knowing that she need not journey alone, her response is is a free flowing, yes!
- Who are the companions and allies God has gifted you with for your journey?
- How might you companion others through their fears and hesitations in responding to God’s invitiations to them?
As Christmas is nigh, we become aware that we are each capable of “becoming the dawn announcing His rising!”
-Sister Lyn Szymkiewicz
Third week of Advent
We are called to “JOY”, a joy that delights in how God’s love saves us and will bring peace in all the changing circumstances of our lives.
**Oh Loving God, we ask you to inspire us to pursue and develop joy as a way of being, as we look forward with hope for Jesus’s coming.
We are invited to share Gods love with others, so as to cultivate and enhance a genuine desire to make the world a better place. Our Father delights in filling all His children with good things. We are called to do the same.
**Gracious God, show us the Incarnation in all your people. Help us to love and share with the Dear neighbor, as joyfully and as freely as you love us.
We ask for the courage and faith to say “YES,” as Joseph and Mary did, who trusted and believed that, “nothing is impossible for God,” regardless of the consequences and struggles they would face.
**Help us to “be still” and listen for your voice, Lord, so that we may open our lives to your will.
Jesus is the Light that came into the world. As John the Baptist testified, may we too be true witnesses to that Light, always pointing to our Savior.
**Jesus, YOU are the very center of our lives. YOU are the source of our JOY!
-Associate Carla Gregory
Second week of Advent
May the spirit of Advent open our hearts to every person we encounter.
May these hearts become the stable to welcome the stranger and announce the great news of peace on earth.
May your love flow through us to all the world.
May we hold each other up so as to travel to this new year of life together.
May the freshness of the new life that you bring, capture our hearts and bring us home.
-Sister Mary Ann Thimons
First week of Advent
God of Love,
Your son, Jesus,
is your greatest gift to us,
He is a sign of your love,
With open hearts, help us walk in that love during the weeks of Advent,
As we wait and prepare for His coming.
We pray in the name of Jesus, our Savior.
