Sister Lyn Szymkiewicz is walking the North Country Trail 100 Mile Challenge and invites you to join her October 16, October 23, November 6 or November 20. Sister Lyn has hiked a total of 70 miles so far this year. View routes and meeting points.
This year, the National Park Service celebrates its centennial, and everyone can take part in the milestone celebration. To commemorate the occasion, the North Country Trail Association is promoting a Hike 100 Challenge: 100 miles for 100 years of the national parks.
A member of the Wampum Chapter of the North Country Trail Association, Sister Lyn has walked numerous sections of the 200-mile trail that runs through Pennsylvania. She has registered for the Hike 100 Challenge and encourages you to do the same.
To make the hike more meaningful, Sister Lyn suggests that you read and reflect on the new papal document, Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home. The sisters are studying the document as a way to deepen their understanding of the needs of Creation and God’s call to them. Perhaps you might reflect on the document through prayer groups, church gatherings or neighborhood groups. For resources, click on National Catholic Reporter Reflection Guide and Laudato Si.
If you like to hike and want to take part in the Hike 100 Challenge, please sign up at North Country Trail Association. You may not be able to join Sister Lyn on every hike, but do what you can and even hike on your own to accumulate your miles.
