SUMMARY:Morning of Prayer for Compassion and Dignity
DESCRIPTION:During Catholic Sisters Week (March 8-14)\, women religious from throughout Western Pennsylvania will stand in prayer at the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Pittsburgh. Together\, Sisters will pray that compassion\, dignity and respect be shown to all\, in particular to those who are immigrants. All people of good will are invited to join this interfaith prayer vigil. \nA Morning of Prayer for Compassion & Dignity\n8:30 to 9:30 a.m. | Friday\, March 13\n3000 Sidney Street | Pittsburgh’s Southside \nThe theme for Catholic Sisters Week 2026 is Stories of Hope and Heart. Our collective prayer action reflects our continuing story of support for immigrants and their fair and just treatment. For\, we all are created in the image of God. \n \nWhere to Park\nDo not park in the ICE or IBEW parking lots. There are public parking ramps about two blocks away on Sidney Street. Payment for parking requires a smartphone that can click on a QR code\, which takes you to a website to enter your credit card information and license plate number. They do not take cash or provide tickets that can be used at a pay station. \nWhere to Stand\nFriday morning prayer gatherings at this location have been averaging about 100 people each week\, so the sidewalk gets a little crowded. It is important that everyone stays on the sidewalk and does not end up on ICE’s lawn. \nOther Important Guidelines\nAt some point during the service\, an ICE agent may bring out one of their K-9 officers and walk around the building’s perimeter. The dog is leashed\, and neither the dog nor the officer come near the sidewalk. \nSome people carry signs\, but not many. If you choose to bring a sign\, it should reflect the spirit of the prayer service — such as “Love thy Neighbor.” Please do not include political or protest messages. \nPeople who disagree with the purpose of the gathering sometimes stop to express their feelings. It is recommended that we not engage them.

SUMMARY:One Church\, One Family Catholic Public Witness for Immigrants
DESCRIPTION:Casa San José\, Pax Christi\, and the Sisters of St. Joseph will lead a prayerful public witness outside the ICE Office on Friday\, November 14\, 2025\, from 8:00-9:30 a.m. The event is registered with the One Church\, One Family campaign\, a national movement of U.S. Catholics calling people of faith to publicly demonstrate solidarity with migrant families\, asylum seekers\, and refugees. The prayerful public witness\, which will include speakers from Christian Life Community\, is one of more than 100 events that have been planned across the country as part of the effort. \n“We are living in a time when our faith demands action on behalf of immigrants across our nation who are suffering fear and family separation with the actions of our government in the name of immigration enforcement\,” said Sister Janice Vanderneck\, Director of Civic Engagement at Casa San José. \nIn the Catholic tradition\, November 13 is the Feast Day of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini\, the patron saint of immigrants and the first American saint to be canonized. The 50+ events across the country around this feast day will culminate the campaign\, which began with over 50 events that took place on or around October 22\, 2025. The body of U.S. bishops\, individual bishops\, and Catholic organizations have been speaking out against the implementation of inhumane policies that go against the Catholic Church’s teaching on migration\, which is informed by the Bible and Catholic moral teaching. \n“As Catholics and people of deep faith\, we reject the culture of fear and silence that dehumanizes\, and we choose instead to stand with migrants\,” shared Jon Gromek of the Ignatian Solidarity Network\, one of the principal organizers of the campaign. “Together\, our voices will send a powerful message to defend the dignity of our neighbors\, family members\, fellow parishioners\, classmates\, coworkers\, and friends.” \nPlease join us on the sidewalk outside 3000 Sidney Street\, Pittsburgh\, PA 15203. The closest public parking is just off the Hot Metal Bridge\, about a three-block walk.
