In light of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic and in accordance with Centers for Disease Control guidelines, Earth Day and all other public events and programs at the Motherhouse are suspended through June 1.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping to keep our sisters, staff, and community safe and healthy. Read more here.
The Sisters of St. Joseph, in partnership with Baden Borough and Baden Garden Club, invite all to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on Saturday, April 25, 2020, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. This fun, free, family-friendly event will take place on the Sisters’ 80-acre campus, located at 1020 West State Street.
Enjoy live music and hot foods from local organizations as you explore our grounds through guided nature hikes and learn sustainable practices like composting and water conservation through teaching demonstrations. Look out for a special appearance by “Bigfoot!” Children’s activities include a magic show and nature crafts. All are encouraged to visit the Sisters’ chickens, spend time with the Pets with Heart therapy dogs, and tour our community gardens.
Interactive exhibits by Fern Hollow Nature Center, Western PA Beekeepers, and the Sisters of St. Joseph Sustainability Committee will explain how changes in our climate affect wildlife, how honeybees contribute to the ecosystem, and how we can all become better stewards of God’s creation through reducing our energy consumption, recycling, and encouraging community involvement in protecting our environment.
The Sisters are committed to conserving resources and living in sustainable ways. They believe God is present in nature and they invite others to join them in celebrating Earth Day and caring for our common home. Baden Earth Day is hosted by the Sisters of St. Joseph in conjunction with Baden Borough and Baden Garden Club. For more information, visit: Facebook.com/CSJBaden.
