Serving God and the Dear Neighbor without Distinction
Late in the night on Thursday, July 31, three of our Sisters stood in solidarity with about 50 neighbors in Ambridge to speak out about the unjust treatment of immigrants. They gathered in response to ICE and law enforcement taking immigrants into custody and witnessed at least one man heartbreakingly separated from his family and young children.
“These are human beings, made in the image of God, who deserve the same love, respect, and dignity that we all do,” said Sister Jean Uzupis, congregational moderator, after learning of the situation.

The next morning, on Friday, August 1, our Sisters joined Pax Christi, Casa San José and people of faith from across the region for a prayer vigil for immigrants on the sidewalk in front of the ICE office in Pittsburgh.
The interfaith gatherings will continue each Friday during the month of August from 8am to 10am at 3000 Sidney Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203. All are welcome to join in this shared spirit of love for our dear neighbors, without distinction.
As disturbing scenes of immigrant families being terrorized continue to unfold across the country, we stand in solidarity with those who are suffering, and we will continue to speak out about the injustices they face.
We take seriously the Gospel call to welcome the stranger, love our neighbors, and care for the most vulnerable among us. If you, too, are disheartened by the unjust treatment of our immigrant brothers and sisters, we urge you to support Casa San José and to stand up for your neighbors.
