Reflecting on the Breath of God Amid COVID-19

June 4, 2020 By Sisters of St. Joseph

Experiencing difficulty in breathing is one of the warning signs of Covid-19. Experiencing shortness of breath, gasping to take in air can lead to a panic reaction. . . . This is the time to gasp for the Breath of God.

Sister Christine Kresho invites us to reflect on these words, excerpted from an entry in her new blog, Adult Faith Meets Santa-God. Following a 14-year ministry as pastoral associate at Our Lady of Grace Parish in Silver Spring, Maryland, Sister Christine started the blog in March just days before the World Health Organization characterized COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic. The pandemic made Sister Christine think about how many ministries would change, including her own.

Through her blog, Sister Christine hopes to bring to others a greater understanding of their image of God, and to help them recognize in that image an all-inclusive, compassionate God who loves them unconditionally. It is an underlying theme that inspired her ministry with parishioners and formed the framework for her books,  “Second Childhood: Aging into Divine Relationship” and “Praying the Stations: Stations of the Cross for Today’s Disciples.”

Reflecting on her ministries, Sister Christine says that God once again has given her new life with an opportunity to reach out virtually to a wider circle of dear neighbors – all navigating through a global pandemic and many searching for spiritual support.

In concluding her blog post, she writes:

A phrase we hear often these days is ‘we’re in this together.’ When we find ourselves having difficulty in breathing, may we remember that the Breath of God within us whispers ‘we’re in this together.’
